CHINA WORLD SUMMIT WING REVIEW – IS IT WORTH A SPLURGE?

Reading my blog you may not realize it, but I love luxury and five-star hotels. Unfortunately, my budget is more of the pedestrian variety. That is fine though – I am all about having a wonderful vacation without breaking the bank. But every once in a while I do decide to go for a big splurge and indulge my taste for luxury.
My 2 night stay at China World Summit Wing definitely was one of these splurges. While not atrociously expensive in the big scheme of things, it was significantly costlier than any other accommodation during my six month Asia trip.
But was it worth the money? (Spoiler alert: Absolutely!) Read on for a general review (for those of you who just want the bare facts) and a more detailed analysis (for those like me who want to know every little detail) so you can decide if China World Summit Wing would be the right hotel in Beijing for you!

Overview: China World Summit Wing
Hotel and Location
China World Summit Wing is part of the Shangri-La Group and located on the top floors (64-80) of a skyscraper attached to China World Mall near the Guomao Subway Station. The location is excellent with easy access to restaurants and shops at the mall as well as an easy and short subway trip to Beijing’s major attractions.
The hotel’s biggest plus are the stunning views over modern Beijing (this is not the hotel for you if you don’t like heights!). Rooms have large windows and I truly felt like a CEO staying there.
Rooms at China World Summit Wing
My room was huge and very well appointed. The design is a bit more traditional/dated so if you are looking for cutting-edge design or a modern Skandi-style it may not be to your taste (the photos give a good indication of what to expect). However, everything worked very well – the desk was ideal for serious work, the bed comfortable, the bathroom setup functional etc… Personally, I dislike furniture/design that looks cool but is uncomfortable or impractical so this was perfect for me.
China World Summit Wing Amenities
The hotel offers several lounges/restaurants as well as a fitness studio and pool area. I did not use these but checked out the leisure area and it was very nice! Just as in the rooms, all of these have large windows with gorgeous views.
Price and Value of a Stay
I paid USD 275 per night for my stay at China World Summit Wing (Executive Room with King-sized Bed). Quite a high price for China (a clean and serviceable room in Beijing can be had for around USD 40) but really not that bad in general. On my last trip to California I paid USD 190 for one night at a Holiday Inn Express next to the freeway in San Diego!
My stay in Beijing not only included a huge and luxurious room with stunning views but also a full breakfast (one of the best I have had at a hotel), all-day access to the Executive Lounge (with sodas and snacks), and a Happy Hour from 5 to 7 pm that included not only free drinks but also enough food to double as dinner (at least for me).
Given all that, I thought the value for price was excellent (though of course it was still not cheap)!
Detailed Review – All about China World Summit Wing
Getting to China World Summit Wing
Let me give you my top tip right away: While the hotel is quite close to the Guomao Subway Station, walking from there with luggage is actually quite difficult. I strongly recommend you arrive by Didi or taxi!
Presumably, most people are clever enough to do so anyway but I wasn’t and dragging the suitcase along was not great fun (and it is always a bit of a let-down arriving at a high-end hotel all sweaty and red in the face!).
Best Path from Guomao Station to Summit Wing
However, if you do want to go by subway (fine without luggage) the easiest option is to use exit E2 and NOT to enter the mall. Instead walk along the outside of the mall towards the north side and turn left. (On the photo above: face the mall, turn right, walk to cross-street and turn left)
You will have to navigate crossings, steps, and sidewalks plugged full of bikes but at least it is straight-forward.
Walking from Guomao To Summit Wing via China World Mall
As China World Summit Wing is attached to the mall this may seem like the better option (especially if it is very hot). However, the mall is great but very large and confusing. It is better to grit your teeth and walk along the outside as you will get there much faster.
If you are already in the mall when you read this (or have to go through it for some reason) your best option is as follows:
- Head towards the toy hub (with FAO Schwarz etc.) and take the escalator up to Floor 3
2. Follow the signage towards China World Summit Wing
3. Take a short escalator up to Level 4.
4. Keep following the signs until you get to the entrance to the hotel building.
5. Once inside, you are in the conference room area. Take the elevator down to the ground floor/entrance so you can access the correct elevator.
6. Change to the hotel elevator that will take you up to the lobby/reception on the 64th floor.
If this sounded complicated – it is. Do yourself a favor and walk along the street or best get a taxi/Didi!
Check-in at China World Summit Wing
Once you arrive at the main entrance/lobby (ideally by car) you have to take the elevator up to the 64th floor for your actual check-in.
The check-in/reception is located at the entrance to the Executive Lounge. Service was very friendly and competent. I arrived early in the day but as my room was not ready I got an upgrade to a better category! Definitely a good start to my stay.
Please note though that China World Summit Wing does require a deposit for your stay (it was the only one of the hotels in Beijing I stayed at that did). I believe it was USD 200 (not sure if this is a fixed amount or USD 100 per night). Your best option would be to use Alipay/WeChat as your refund will come through faster. However, I used an international Visa card and had no issues.
My Room at China World Summit Wing
Overall impression
As mentioned before, I got a free upgrade to a Premier King Room (so all my room descriptions refer to that category). The first thing I noticed was that the room is absolutely huge.
It consisted of a long hallway, a small dressing area, a large main bathroom with two sinks and tub, a smaller toilet room, and a separate shower area. I have been in apartments that were smaller (according to Trip.com the room has 65 sqm!).
As mentioned before, the style is traditional luxury with marble, dark wood, a bit of gold, and rich colors. I loved it but it is maybe not the most cutting-edge design. In addition, while the furnishings weren’t worn or damaged, they didn’t feel sparkling new either. For me, that was easily outweighed by the fact that everything was well-thought out and practical, but if your standards are very high you may not feel the same.
Bathroom and Dressing Area
Like everything else at China World Summit Wing, the bathroom was very well thought out and functional. The main bathroom had a double sink (with all kinds of amenities) and a large marble bathtub (ideal after all day sightseeing).
The doors leading to the toilet and shower areas were glass but not especially see-through (not sure why modern hotels often make the walls completely transparent).
The toilet had more buttons than a space ship and included a pre-warmed seat!
The shower had good water pressure and a seat to make it easier to shave your legs or whatever.
Main Bedroom at China World Summit Wing
General Layout
The bedroom had a large king bed with two nightstands and view towards the large window, a tv mounted on the wall, a cabinet with a minibar, a large and efficient desk, and a sofa with couch table.
The one thing I liked most was that every thing worked so well. There were controls for the lights next to the bed (and they were easy to figure out), the furniture was comfortable, and the desk had plenty of charging ports.
There were also lots of small touches of luxury like a pillow menu, fresh flowers, and a small fruit selection.
The hotel’s WiFi was easy to access and worked well though it did of course come with the access restrictions imposed by the Chinese government. As of June 2026, VPNs did not work very well (this may change though so check the current situation just prior to your trip). However, my international esim worked great so I could use the internet without issues.
Minibar and Coffee/Tea area
A big pet peeve of mine is being overcharged for drinks/incidentals at expensive hotels. I don’t mind a bit of an upcharge but asking 10 times (or even more) the normal price is just ridiculous. So I was very pleased to see that China World Summit Wing charged only RMB 10 for a Coke from the minibar! That is quite a reasonable price and made me love the hotel even more!
Aside of free water (as anywhere in Beijing as you can’t drink the tap water) there were also ample tea and coffee making facilities (I didn’t try any of these).
Desk Area
Another big plus was the large and impressive desk. Not only was it functional and comfortable, but working there made me feel like a big boss! In combination with the ample space and the large windows it really was a great experience!
And the desk included something I had never seen at a hotel before and that really impressed me: The desk drawer included a full assortment of office supplies. I am not talking about the standard pen and hotel stationery. No, we are talking paper clips, ruler, stapler, scissors and even new Scotch tape and eraser. Just another thoughtful touch that made me love this hotel!
Window with a view
As much as I loved the other aspects of the room, nothing beat the large windows with a view over the CBD. It was equally stunning during the day, at sunset, and at night! Really it was the kind of view you would pay extra for.
One quick word of advice though: After checking in I felt a strong urge to dance through the room in my underwear (queen of the world style) but decided to postpone this until later. This turned out to be a good decision – as I was working at the desk I heard a strange noise from the window and when I looked the window cleaners were right there!
Lest you think it is just me – afterwards I saw a small warning note on the desk that reminded guests of the window cleaners and to close the blinds if they needed privacy! (No worries, the cleaners have a set schedule and at night you are free to do whatever you want without worrying about the blinds).
China World Summit Wing Amenities
Pool and Fitness Center
The pool and fitness center are on the 78th floor and like everywhere else at China World Summit Wing offer wonderful views over modern Beijing. Unfortunately, I did not have time to use the pool (or the fitness center) but I did go to check them out!
I know nothing about fitness centers but this one looked nice: clean, decent size, bright, with good views.
The locker room (obviously I saw only the one for women) was similar to the one at Shangri-La Chiang Mai and quite pleasant. As for the pool there were both a long pool that looked great for swimming laps and a hot tub/jacuzzi area. Both offered really great views over the city!
Other Amenities
In addition to the lounges described below, the hotel has a couple of restaurants: Grill 79 (Western/Steakhouse), Jinyue (Chinese), and Chairman Rooms (private dining). Of course there is also a spa and various conference/meeting facilities. I did not visit/use any of these but assume they are in line with the rest of the hotel.
Executive Lounge
My room rate included access to the Executive Lounge on floor 64 from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. This has a decent size and is located next to reception. Aside of comfortable chairs/seating arrangements and the iconic views, you can also get as many sodas or coffee/tea as you want.
The offerings include fruit as well as savory and sweet snacks. The savory selection wasn’t that impressive to me (mostly because I am not a fan of tuna). I think it was usually tuna sandwiches and small wraps. But there were also cookies and two or three different pastries. The pastries were very tasty indeed!
All in all, great for a small afternoon tea or a quick snack after getting back from touring but not really intended as a full meal.
Happy Hour
My room rate also included Happy Hour from 5 to 7 pm at Atmosphere on the 80th floor. This was an absolute highlight for me! The space is bright and airy and the views are possibly even more stunning than from the room.
The drinks are free-flowing: soda, beer, wine, and presumably anything else (I stuck to wine so did not ask for anything else). Even better, the light snacks advertised were basically a decent-sized buffet that was easily enough for my dinner.
It included around 5 warm dishes (like a noodle dish, fried chicken, etc.), some pastries, crudités, cheese/olives, salads etc. All very tasty!
Breakfast
Breakfast was served from 6:30 to 10:30 am on floor 79. You check in at the entrance and are assigned a table. My rate included both an extensive buffet and a la carte dishes.
Really the buffet had pretty much everything: dim sum, congee, bakery items, cooked dishes, cereal, yogurt, fruit… I especially enjoyed the fried doughsticks and the bread pudding!
In addition, I ordered Eggs Benedict (my favorite) and that was tasty as well. The only slight negative was that service at breakfast was a tad slow and generic. Nothing to complain about but not a huge plus either.
Service at China World Summit Wing
Overall, service at the hotel was good but maybe not outstanding. Don’t get me wrong, the service was friendly and completely fine. But it did not make me go “wow”. Clearing of dishes both in the Executive Lounge and at breakfast was a bit slow and overall it wasn’t the most enthusiastic service I have ever experienced.
However, the room cleaning was excellent. Not only was the room properly cleaned/fixed when I returned, but there was also a great turn down service. They adjusted the wall-mounted tv so it was visible from the bed, put out slippers and placed a bottle of water on the nightstand. And I loved their little evening treat: instead of a chocolate there was a bookmark with a quotation on the pillow!
Nearby Things to see and do
The main nearby attraction is of course China World Mall. It was probably my favorite mall in Beijing overall (and I visited a fair number). While maybe a bit less artsy or upscale than others, it had a huge selection – restaurants and bakeries, designer shops, souvenirs, clothing, toys, and even a fair-sized book store. It was also quite busy and seemed popular.
Aside of the mall, there aren’t really any tourist attractions right there. However, both Sanlitun (for more shopping and nightlife) and Beijing’s city center with Forbidden City, Wangfujing Pedestrian Street, and Tian’anmen Square are only a couple of metro stops from Guomao. Beijing’s public transit is cheap, reliable, and easy to navigate so you can take Line 10 (for Sanlitun) or Line 1 (for the city center) to easily explore the city.
Pros and Cons for China World Summit Wing
As you can tell from my review I really loved my stay there. However, like any place there are pluses and minuses. So here a quick overview:

Should you stay at China World Summit Wing?
I absolutely loved my stay at China World Summit Wing and would stay there again on my next trip to Beijing as long as I can afford it. You do not have to stay at a five-star property in Beijing to have a good time – I was perfectly happy at the 7 Days Premium in Haidian. But if budget allows, a stay at China World Summit Wing really elevates the whole experience.
As long as you don’t have a fear of heights and aren’t looking for the trendiest/modern aesthetic, this hotel is an excellent choice. I can honestly say that staying here made me feel like a millionaire or high-powered CEO! Definitely worth the splurge!
