One of the biggest attractions of Korea (and Japan) is definitely cherry blossom season. So if you are planning a trip to Busan in the spring, you may be wondering whether you should stay in Busan to enjoy the pretty sight or if you need to book an excursion to a nearby city. And if you stay in Busan, the question is where is the best place to find lots of cherry trees…

That was definitely on my mind when I was planning my trip. I got lucky and arrived in Korea just as cherry blossom season peaked. But what I learned rather surprised me.

there are plenty of cherry blossoms in Busan

Cherry Blossoms in Busan

I was actually planning to take a day trip to one of the more famous places for seeing cherry blossoms, like.Jinhae. However, the cherry blossoms peaked right when I arrived in Busan and after a long travel day I didn’t quite have the energy to brave a day trip in a new country (especially without a word of Korean).

Now, I am sure Jinhae makes for a great experience, but I don’t really regret not going. While I am sure the parades and festival events there are great, Busan is absolutely fine as far as actually seeing cherry blossoms. So if you just want some cool photos or enjoy the sight, no need to venture farther.

Timing is crucial, not location

Okay, you might not want to hear this but if you want to see cherry blossoms in Busan it isn’t so much about where but about when. Cherry trees in Busan are kind of like the Matterhorn in Zermatt – you can’t really miss them when you are there. They are honestly everywhere!

Of course the cherry BLOSSOMS only bloom for a very short time so hitting the right time is crucial. If you come for a longer visit like me this is quite manageable. There is probably a time frame of a bit over a week somewhere in late March or early April to enjoy the white and pink beauties (no guarantees though, especially with climate change!).

I got here on April 2nd 2026 and it was right peak cherry blossom time!

If you are visiting for only two or three days, your chances of being here at the right time are unfortunately much lower. But in that case taking a day trip to Jinhae or anywhere else will not help much either.

But there is an upside – there are plenty of other blooms and blossoms to be seen after the cherry blossoms have peaked. Yes, that sounds like a bit of a cop out but it is true. Some of these are stunning and I may even like them more than the cherry blossoms!

I have no clue what kind of tree this is but pretty sure not cherry but so pretty!

but where do i find cherry blossoms in Busan?

It is easy to find stunnig blossoms but harder to get a pretty photo of them

As mentioned above, if you are here at the right time you will see loads of them. The main problems you will encounter are either too many other people or less than perfect surroundings (e.g. parked cars or power lines) that will mess up your photos.

Below I will tell you about some places I went and saw cherry blossoms (with photos) and then I will quickly mention some other areas that are known for cherry blossoms but that I didn’t manage to get to in time.

#1 Along Oncheoncheon Stream

If you walk along the Oncheoncheon Stream between PNU and Oncheonjang Station (and probably even further) you will see many, many trees with cherry blossoms.

I was staying in the PNU area so this was just a nice neighborhood walk for me. If you are coming specifically from another part of town to check out the blossoms along the street make sure to spend some time in the PNU area. It is lots of fun with many cafes, restaurants, and shops geared to students.

I don’t think I have seen that many cherry trees before in all my life!

#2 Yongdusan park

Yongdusan Park was the only place on this list that specifically showed up as a cherry blossom spot on NaverMaps. While the big tree was beautiful there actually weren’t that many cherry trees and a lot of people so it wouldn’t be my top recommendation. But if you are in the area it is quite pretty and worth a visit.

# 3 Gamcheon Village

By the time I visited Gamcheon Cultural Village the cherry blossoms were starting to fade but you could still see how many there were on the surrounding hills. Definitely a very pretty place to admire them.

# 4 Gwangili Beach

Street lined with cherry trees

The streets near Gwangili Beach were just lined with cherry blossoms! As you can see the petals were starting to fall by the time I visited but for the most part they were still covered in white.

As I am writing this post I realized that this was either Namcheon-dong or nearby and is apparently one of the top recommendations to see cherry blossoms! However, I just happened to come across it when I went to check out Gwangili Beach after attending church nearby.

Please be aware though that while the trees were stunning there was quite a bit of traffic and bunches of people so getting a good photo was quite difficult!

# 5 Bemeosa Temple

Bemeosa Temple was my personal favorite when it came to admiring cherry blossoms. While there were not as many trees as at some other places, there were also less people and the surroundings were pretty: temples and nature instead of cars and power lines.

Apparently the trees near Bemeosa tend to bloom a bit later than trees in the rest of Busan so if you are visiting at the tail end of blossom season it is a good idea to check this temple out (aside of this it is an absolute must-see in Busan anyway).

Additional Places in Busan known for their Cherry Blossoms

My personal advice for seeing cherry blossoms in Busan is to just tour whichever area/sight you are most interested in. You are highly likely to see beautiful blossoms there (based on my experience).

However, here are a couple areas that are often recommended and that I either didn’t visit or was too late to see the cherry blossoms:

  • Dalmaji-gil Road (Haeundae)
  • Macdo Eco Park and Samnak Eco Park ( I actually saw this area during the train ride from the airport but didn’t have a chance to go back for pictures)
  • Hwangnyeongsan Mountain
  • Igidae Coastal Walk (by the time I went there the blossoms were unfortunately gone)
  • Democracy Park

Conclusion

To my surprise, there are incredibly many cherry trees in Busan (I wonder if cherries are cheap here in the summer?). As long as your timing is right, you will see them without much effort. I have listed some places that I especially enjoyed but my recommendation is to just go about your normal touring – you are sure to find cherry blossoms on your way!
